Jamaica and Reggae was at the forefront of the celebration of German football club Bayern Munich on Saturday as the club celebrated being crowned champions of their domestic Bundesliga competition.
The island was represented by reggae singer Omi, who was invited to be a guest of the players and fans at the club’s stadium, popularly known as the Allianz Arena. He then later performed during a celebratory private after party at a place called the Portpalast.
A packed venue of more than 80,000 people witnessed as Omi performed Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix). He was later presented with a plaque by the club’s Brazilian defender Dante for selling triple gold in Germany with the song.
The singer performed one song at the stadium after the match in which Bayern defeated Mainz 05 2-0, and then a full set at the private after party.
Omi’s manager, Clifton ‘Specialist’ Dillon, who organised the singer’s appearance through his Oufah Media & Productions company, was also present at the historic occasion.
“This is one of the moments I will never forget in my life. I am overwhelmed with this experience and I truly enjoyed myself,” Omi said.
