The Democrats were no doubt big winners on Tuesday night as voters turn out to show that that they were shunning the hatred being spewed by Donald Trump and his followers.
Tuesday night’s biggest winner, however, was marijuana legalization.
Phil Murphy, the New Jersey incoming governor, ran his campaign on marijuana legalization.
“The criminalization of marijuana has only served to clog our courts and cloud people’s futures, so we will legalize marijuana,” he said during his primary night victory speech. “And while there are financial benefits, this is overwhelmingly about doing what is right and just.”
Over the summer, Murphy also tweeted about the racial disparities in marijuana arrests and how something needed to be done about that problem.
“NJ’s marijuana laws cost $143M/yr & come w a 3:1 racial disparity in arrests.”
The laws that criminalize marijuana have been falling very fast recently, Tuesday night’s election results show that it is only a matter of time before they all come crumbling down.
