Fans, friends and family of Elaine Thompson can relax and not fret. The 25-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist is not dead. She is just the latest unfortunate victim of an internet death hoax.
Rumors of the track and field star surfaced Saturday via a photo of a news clip being passed around on Whatsapp, Instagram and other social media sites.
According to the fake news release, Thompson died after collapsing at her residence.
18 Karat Reggae was able to confirm with our contacts within the Jamaican Athletic Association (JAA) that the report is completely false.
Thompson is not the first to fall victim to such a false and cruel hoax. Celebrities like Bill Cosby, Danny Glove and Samuel Jackson have all been victims of death hoaxes.
Elaine Thompson won the gold medal in the women’s 100 meter at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
