Reggae Superstar, Buju Banton now has a confirmed Prison Release date! As is widely known, Mark Myrie aka Buju Banton was convicted on 3 counts of conspiracy to traffic cocaine; a 4th charge for gun related offences was withdrawn pre-trial. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 years of incarceration. All attempts at appeal failed hence he ended up having to serve full term.
Reggae fans all over the world have been on edge for at least 4 years, due to several false reports about the Artist’s appeal bail and/or release dates. Well a date has been set according to the US Federal Bureau of Prisons website, which firmly indicates the Grammy-Winning-Reggae-Icon’s release date as December 8, 2018.
Buju’s initially release dates is apparently January 2019, around the 10-year mark. That all changed in 2015 once Banton received a small reprieve in his sentence for pre-trial “time served”.
At this point, the only mystery is how soon he will be deported, what will be his first stage appearance, has he been writing and perfecting his already perfect craft etc. Wish we knew but this news is amazing and will do for now. 18 Karat Reggae will keep all apprised as this story develops. Stay tuned.
