A question for all Jamaican fathers on Father’s Day.

Vybz Kartel and Mavado
Vybz Kartel and Mavado

First of all, Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers who are doing the right thing. Now let’s get right to our question.

Imagine there were two situations you could be in for Father’s Day and you had to choose one, you have no other choice. You either have to be in a Vybz Kartel situation or a Mavado situation, which situation would you rather to be in?

Vybz Kartel situation:
You want to spend the day with your sons and you can, however, they have to come and visit you in a cell. At the end of the day they will leave you and go back to a world of freedom but you will remain caged up. You are happy, however, because they are your seeds and you would do anything for them. You would rather suffer for them rather than watch them suffer.

Mavado situation:
You want to spend the day with your son and you can, however, you have to go and visit him in a cell. At the end of the day you will have to leave him and go back to a world of freedom while he remains caged up. Of course you are sorry for his suffering but you only have one life to live, so if someone has to suffer, better him than you. He is your seed and you want the best for him but you also have other seeds that need you, so you are happy for your freedom.

Fathers, obviously none of those are ideal situations. No father should want to be in any of the situations above. We use that analogy to show all the hardworking and struggling fathers out there that it is not necessarily the amount of money you have that makes a happy family. Just do the best you can for your children as you raise them to be productive adults in society.

Vybz Kartel and Mavado are both rich men but today they would probably trade places with men not as financially secure as they are. Sizzla said it best, “life is worth more than gold.” Not only your life, but the lives of those you love.

We must say they both Mavado’s son and Vybz Kartel could be one hundred percent innocent and just happen to find themselves in the situation they are in today.

We say all of that to say this; to all you fathers out there, if you are able to freely spend the day with your children then give thanks to the God or nature, depending on your religious belief.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
