Don’t blame Shenseea, blame Governor DeSantis.

American media is bashing Jamaican superstar, Shenseea, for her performance at an outdoor concert in Wywood, Florida, on Saturday night. Hundreds of fans were packed together without social distancing and hardly anyone wearing a mask.

Experts pointed to Shenseea’s concert as just one example of why South Florida, among other places around the country, is speeding toward an unsettling peak in coronavirus cases.

“More than anything, it comes down to these young people not adhering to the simple public heath requests and a false sense of security. Because young healthy people who get the coronavirus have minimal effect if any they tend to be selfish in their behavior and will carry the virus home to a parent or grandparent,” said Aileen Marty, M.D., professor of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the Florida International University (FIU).

While it is true that these events have the ability to spread the coronavirus, it stands to reason that the artist should be the last person to be blamed. The artist has a right to make a living and fans have a right to decide what risks they are willing to take.

Shenseea’s manager, Romeich Major, completely disagrees with the American media bashing of his artist and believe the media criticisms are completely unjustified.

“We are artistes, we are management, and we get book. If someone books us for a show, and we ask them if it’s okay for the show to be kept in their area and they approve it, I don’t see we’re doing anything illegal. First of all, the promoter got his permit, and a lot of police was at the venue working,” said Major in an Instagram post yesterday afternoon.

The question the media should ask before bashing Shenseea is whether or not she was breaking any laws. It was not a secret concert that only the fans who attended knew about. It was a perfectly legal event based on the current restrictions or non-restrictions in the state of Florida.

So Shenseea should by no means be blamed for trying to make a living. All the blame should be directed at governor DeSantis who is doing absolutely nothing to keep Floridians safe during this pandemic.

The last time Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference was Nov. 4, when bragged about how the state counted its votes. Since then, Florida has seen COVID-19 cases rise and positivity rates almost double.

“It’s embarrassing how little we have seen Governor Ron DeSantis during this pandemic,” said Rep. Anna Eskamani (D-Orlando), who is rumored to be ramping up a run for governor.
