If you are a Jamaican and had been waiting and anticipating for the release of the great Buju Banton from prison, you might not be too happy with is recent decision. Buju Banton’s first concert when he is released from prison on December 8 of this year, will not be in his homeland Jamaica but rather in the land of Soca, Trinidad and Tobago.

he announcement came yesterday from Jodian Ebanks, a member of the singer’s marketing team, at a media briefing held during the Love and Harmony Cruise aboard the Celebrity Summit vessel.

According to Ebanks, the concert will be held on April 22, 2019. The venue was not disclosed. She said a concert is scheduled for Jamaica at a later date.

“Buju is very excited about being on the road again. Jamaica is very special to him and he wants to be able to give his home country the type of concert it deserves,” said Ebanks.

“Trinidad was chosen as the dates, travel schedules, and all the other variables all came together for that time of year and was the best fit,” she continued.

18 Karat Reggae was informed that a lot of the acts that Buju Banton wants to perform with will be in Trinidad at the time Buju wants to do his first concert and that is the reason for his decision.

Most reggae fans are OK with Buju’s decision as whether it is Jamaica or Trinidad, they are all African people anyway. However, the Jamaicans who are still in mental chains believe that Buju is disrespecting his homeland of Jamaica by performing in Trinidad first.
