When Vybz Kartel’s wife, Shorty learned she was expecting her fourth child with Mavado, the 36-year-old record label boss turned to her friend D’Angel for advice. “Shorty is leaning on D’Angel who went through a similar situation when she left Bounty Killer and had a baby for Beenie Man,” a source tells 18 Karat Reggae exclusively. “And talked through her decision-making process regarding moving forward with this pregnancy, having the baby and what she’s going to do.”
D’Angel was nothing but encouraging when Shorty decided to welcome a child with Mavado and not abort the pregnancy. “D’Angel is so supportive and fully supports Shorty’s decision decision,” says the insider. “She wanted Shorty to make the decision for herself and to understand this is what it looks like, this is how your life will change, and Shorty gets that.”
As previously reported, the Short Boss is just about a month along in her pregnancy. “It definitely wasn’t planned,” a separate source recently told 18 Karat Reggae, adding that because Vybz Kartel and Mavado were once lyrical enemies, Shorty “had to decide if she was prepared, with or without Mavado’s involvement.”
Still, another source told Us that Mavado is not “thrilled about Shorty being pregnant, especially because he is married.”
In the end, it was her “incredible support system” that helped her make her decision, especially the support from D’Angel who have walked down almost the same road before.
