The two presidents prior to Donald Trump had a trend going that the Hip Hop community is hoping will continue with the current lame duck president.

In 2008, John Forte, a rapper and producer was pardoned by outgoing president George Bush. He was arrested in 2000 for carrying two suitcases filled with over $1.4 million in liquid cocaine through Newark International Airport. He was convicted on intent to distribute charges and given the mandatory minimum 14 years in prison. That is, until W. pardoned him.

In 2016, rapper and hip-hop mogul Percy “Master P” Miller begged Barack Obama to pardon his brother and fellow rapper, Corey “C-Murder” Miller, who is serving a sentence for murder. Obama did not grant Master P’s wish, however, he did commute the sentence of rapper Tampa Tony who was serving life in prison on two cocaine possession charges.

So as Trump gets ready to exit the White House, it will be interesting to see if he can continue the pardon or commute the sentence of a rapper trend that his two predecessors had going.

It is quite possible that Trump might even do more than his predecessors especially when considering the love he has received from the hip hop community and some of the top rappers. Kanye West is one of the biggest supporters of the president who often dons a MAGA hat and his wife has also proven to have some influence on the president.

Lil Wayne who is now facing his only criminal charges endorsed the Trump re-election and Trump loves repaying a favor, so the rapper could be the one in line to continue the hip hop pardon trend.

If not Lil Wayne, here are the other rappers that the president could consider pardoning or commuting their sentences.

C-Murder: Born Corey Miller, C-Murder is serving a life sentence for the murder of a 16-year-old in New Orleans club in 2002.

Bobby Shmurda: Serving a 7-year sentence for gang involvement in Brooklyn.

Kodak Black: Busted for making false statements while applying for a gun.

Suge Knight: Not exactly a rapper but hip hop fans will understand why he is listed here. In late 2018, Suge was sentenced to 28 years in prison for killing Terry Carter.

G-Dep: His conscience made him tell cops he had once shot a man. It turns out the victim died, and in 2011 the former Bad Boy rapper was sentenced to 15-years to life in prison.

Every rapper listed above should have their people contacting the outgoing president right now. Knowing the president and looking at the current trend, it is quite possible that one or more of these rappers could be pardoned or have their sentences commuted.
