It seems like there is absolutely no stopping Vybz Kartel. After five years in prison, the convicted murderer continues to dominate the dancehall scene. But the world boss is proving that he is more than just dancehall as billboard magazine has named his “King of the dancehall” album as the best reggae album for 2016.

The reggae community was in furor last year when billboard gave the best reggae album to Joss Stone, a white British pop artist who dabbled in reggae. Billboard made sure not to make the same error this year as Kartel beat out Rebelution who came in at #10 with “Falling into place”.
More importantly, however, Vybz Kartel beats out his nemesis, Alkaline, who finished at a close #3 with “New level unlocked”. The world boss also beat out the self-proclaimed king of the dancehall, Beenie Man, whose album “Unstoppable” came in at #9.

So Kartel who is unstoppable even behind bars used an album called “King of the dancehall” to beat out an album called “Unstoppable” by the self-proclaimed king of the dancehall. Hollywood could not write a better script.

The other artists that finished in the top 10 reggae albums of 2016 are:

Mr. Vegas – This Is Dancehall
Stephen “Ragga” Marley – Revelation Part 2: The Fruit of Life
J Boog – Wash House Ting
Raging Fyah – Everlasting
Various Artists – We Remember Dennis Brown
Jah9 – 9
