
Tokyo Olympics is just months away.
Athletes from around the world have been training since the conclusion of the summer games of 2016.
He is one of if not the top dancehall artist in the world but now Popcaan wants to do more than just run his mouth while chanting lyrics on reggae, dancehall and hip hop beats. The unruly one wants to run with his leg on the biggest stage in the world and against some of the fastest sprinters in the world.
Popcaan has hired Glen Mills of Racers Track Club to train him as he prepares to make the Jamaican Olympic team and represent the island in in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4 × 100 meters relay.
Ask if he is turning his back on dancehall music, Popcaan says he is not; he just wants to venture outside of his comfort zone.
“I see one of the greatest track athletes of all time dabbling in dancehall, so since I am one of the greatest dancehall artist of all time, I am going to dabble in track,” Popcaan told 18 Karat Reggae.
The deejay says he is currently training five days a week and will be ready by summer.
The 2020 Olympics was postponed because of the coronavirus. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will start on 23 July 2021.
