The reggae music community never doubted the Rasta’s innocence, so it was no surprise when rape charges against Capleton were dropped today.

“It’s a joyful situation; the prophet Capleton has been freed, JAH is great,” Capleton’s manager, Claudette Kemp, told 18 Karat Reggae.

“The police had attempted to submit a new statement and change the original statement given by the girl in the matter. So this decision is an affirmation of truth and rights. Capleton has always maintained his innocence and his name have been cleared in this matter.”

The charges against the Jah Jah City singer were dropped during a committal proceeding in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

“The judge ruled that there was no prima facie case and the matter was discharged. The prosecution had attempted to submit a new statement into evidence but the judge did not allow that and ruled to dismiss the case,” Capleton’s attorney, Christopher Townsend, said.

Capleton who is known for giving back to his community was accused of forcibly having sexual intercourse with a female hairdresser he hired to groom his hair at a hotel in April of 2018.

The deejay staunchly denied the accusations at the time and because of his excellent character, most reggae fans also doubted the allegation. Many in the Reggae and Rasta community saw the entire situation as a woman trying to extort a celebrity for money.

Capleton is most known for donation computers to schools and equipment to hospitals from the proceeds of his annual “St. Mary mi come from” show.
