Pop diva, Rihanna, is working on a reggae album to be released this year and according to her team, she has over 500 songs to choose from. In the end, she will only be selecting 10 to 20 songs for the album.

According to an anonymous producer, Rihanna has been working on the album for well over a year now but she is no rush as she wants the project to be perfect.

“They’ve been having writing camps and trying to keep them quiet for almost a year and a half now,” the producer said.

The name of the reggae alum will be R9 although Rihanna did not give a specific date for its release.

“I’m about to call it that probably, ’cause they have haunted me with this ‘R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?’” she said. “How will I accept another name after that’s been burned into my skull?”

Rihanna was in her home country of Barbados when Buju Banton performed there on his Long Walk to Freedom tour. The pop diva also met and chatted up with the Rasta artiste behind the stage. It is probably safe to say Buju Banton will be on R9 as he is in hot demand right now and was featured in two tracks on DJ Khaled’s recently released Father of Asahd album.

Rihanna says she is open about who will be on this album with the exception of her ex-boyfriend, Canadian rapper, Drake.

“Not on this album, that’s for sure,” was Rihanna’s response when asked if Drake would be a feature on R9.

Rihanna has done Reggae Music and Dancehall in the past but this will be her first full reggae album.
