I-Octane Delivers Solid Performance at Rebel Salute 2018

Thousands of Reggae Enthusiasts from all over the world turned out at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in Priory, St Ann on January 12 & 13, 2018 for the 25th staging of Rebel Salute. This particular event prides itself on being family friendly, alcohol free, positive environment, dosed in conscious lyrics and friendly patrons!

Rebel Salute is in fact “The People’s Show” as it is often referenced by Reggae superstar Queen Ifrica, who also happens to be one of the event’s co-promoters along with her king, Reggae Icon, Tony Rebel.

The show has become synonymous with an authentic reggae experience that not even the constant rain and muddy grounds could delay or tamper with. Reggae Fans stuck with from 7pm until daylight.

The artist line-up was also impressive:

Admiral Tibet, Agent Sasco, Althea & Donna, Anthony B, Anthony Cruz, Barrington Levy, Bernard Collins of the Abyssinians, Big Youth, Bugle, Bushman, Capleton, Charly Black, Chevaughn, Cocoa Tea, Davianah, DaVille, Ding Dong, Duane Stephenson, Elephant Man, Fantan Mojah, Freddie McGregor, Garnet Silk Jr., Glacia Robinson, Egyptian, I-Octane, I-Wayne, Ikaya, Jah Vinci, Jahmiel, JC Lodge, Jesse Royal, Kenyatta Hill, King Sounds, Kukudoo, Leroy Gibbons, Leroy Sibbles, Little Hero, Louie Culture, Luciano, Lutan Fyah, Meleku, Mighty Mystic, Nitty Kutchie, Nkulee Dube, Notis Heavyweight Rockaz, Pablo Moses, Pinchers, Prohgres, Queen Ifrica

Queen Ifrica, Capleton, Jah Messenger Luciano, Freddy McGregor, Romain Virgo,  I-Wayne all had stellar performances but #18KaratReggae’s pick for Most Outstanding Performance has to be I-octane and here are the reasons why:

1 – He recognized the situation on the grounds changed and fans were in a level of discomfort with the unexpected rain; he seized the moment, got off the stage, walked through the mud, climbed up on the photographer’s staged and performed there. Why is this important? He humanized his star presence. All of a sudden people felt the artist appreciated them hanging in there for the performance and most of all, the culture.

2 – His Performance was not only electrifying, it was crowd engaging. With him being in the centre and at close proximity, a real connection with the fans was established, intimate experience between fan and artist.

3 – He shared the stage but not with a fellow artist; he spotted a gentleman selling peanuts and other refreshments and invited him to the stage for promotion and inspiration. He talked about one of his motivation ~ his mother’s experience as a street vender and an incident where her soup pot was keeled over by a street patron. Other similar type venders could be seen raising there goods in the air for recognition and of course got hailed from I-Octane.

4 – After delivering a stellar & engaging performance, I-Octane didn’t stop there; he was spotted walking through the crowd, shaking hands, greeting his fans, taking pic etc

Most notable of the night – Hands Down!
