Another day in America. Another school shooting in America. In fact, two school shootings; one at a high school, one at a University. So what’s new? It’s not the first time for the year, we can only hope and pray that it is the last. Isn’t something obviously wrong when schools are becoming less safe every year?

So today we have two school shootings. One shooting occurred in Thomas Johnson High School in Maryland and another at the University of Southern California (USC). Two kids were shot outside the Maryland high school and thank God neither have life threatening injuries. Things situation at USC was much more serious as they experienced a murder suicide.

I can hear the gun pundits now, “well at least the USC shooter only killed one person and himself.” Yes, thank God it was not as deadly as the Virginia Tech massacre, but had there been more gun control in place, he may not have had the chance to shoot anyone at all.

USC is one of the top universities in the country, so I think it is safe to assume that these children are brighter than the average. Will this soon be the normal behavior to expect from America’s brightest? How long before we start sending our children to school with bullet proof vests and Kevlar helmets? Better yet, why not implement combat training classes in schools? These classes could serve two purposes: It will teach children how to survive all these school shootings as well as get them ready for the military, since the country is becoming a war zone anyway.

It has never been more obvious that America needs tighter gun control laws. Movies, music and video games are more violent than they ever were and guns are easier to get than they ever were, that is a very deadly combination. But I know, the guns are not to be blamed and we don’t need tighter guns laws, we just need to enforce the ones they currently have. That will be the sentiments from the right wing gun nuts once again. Whatever, the status qua is not working and that is no secret. Ban all guns, let’s fight with hands and feet or better yet, don’t fight at all.
