Morgan Heritage’s New Song Passes the 18 Karat Reggae Rating.

Many videos have been put through the rigid 18 Karat Reggae rating process where listeners tell it like it, sometimes without mercy.  Listeners watch and listen to a music video and then rate the song savage, average or garbage; where savage means it is a hit, average means it is OK and garbage means it is weak.

The latest song to go through this process is “Perform and done” by Morgan Heritage.  Dancehall and Reggae fans seem to agree unanimously that this one is a hit.

Morgan Heritage have been putting out classic sounding reggae since 1994, but they’ve all been an integral part of the Jamaican music scene for far longer. As the children of reggae legend Denroy Morgan, the group has inherited the legacy of his influential music. Now, they look to continue that legacy with their upcoming release Strictly Roots, which will feature appearances by Shaggy, J. Boog, Chronixx and members of SOJA.

Also notable is the album’s international roster of producers, including Jamaica’s Don Chandler, BBC One/BBC 1Xtra’s Seani B, American R&B producer Jason “J-Vibe” Farmer and French duo Matthieu Bost and Jeremie “Bim” Dessus.

According to the group, “‘Perform & Done’ is the music video that pushes the envelope for Morgan Heritage lyrically and visually.” The romantic song blends roots reggae with some more contemporary dancehall influences, taking the traditionally mellow genre onto the dance floor. Appropriately, the video features an underdog triumphant in a Kingston dance contest — watch below for a glimpse into the world of Jamaican nightlife.
