A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping his wife over 300 times. Why would she stay married to a rapist to be raped that many times? Well, it turns out it was happening in her sleep.
Apparently while the wife was sleeping, the husband would have intercourse with her without her knowing. The husband pleaded guilty to the charges in exchange for a lesser sentence, so obviously he knew what he was doing was wrong.
What about those who might not know about these things though? Is it logical for a man to think that if his wife is asleep and he is horny, he can just stick it in, just because they are married? Actually, and maybe surprisingly, that action constitutes rape.
Each time a man has sex with a woman, the woman must be in the capacity to accept or deny his sexual advances regardless if they are just dating or have been married for years. When someone is asleep they are unconscious and have no idea what is happening to them. So if a man has intercourse with a woman without her knowledge it is rape.
In the case of this husband and wife, he was not only having intercourse but he was also videotaping he act which is how he eventually got caught.
Sarah Tetley said she only discovered the extent of what her husband Charlie was doing when he was arrested and she watched the sick videos police discovered on his computer.
“I woke up in the morning in that sort of drowsy just waking up stage and realized that he was molesting me in my sleep,” she said.
“At the time I thought I’ll just pretend I’m still asleep and see what’s going on. He stopped pretty quickly and I left the bedroom and went downstairs and sat up watching some rubbish on TV.”
Once he’d gone to work Sarah went to her neighbor’s house and told them what happened. They encouraged her to call the police.
After investigating, the police eventually managed to unlock files on Charlie’s computer and found 316 videos of him having sex with her while she slept.
