Tyga & Kylie Jenner: What should the age of consent be?
Tyga and Kylie Jenner
“Who said that b*tch isn’t old enough
If she could bleed then she could f@#k” – Too Short
As disgusting as those lyrics are, they were featured on a hit song by gangsta rapper, Too Short, back in the nineties.
When Amber Rose posted on her twitter that Tyga had no business messing with Kylie Jenner who have just turned seventeen, I thought she had a valid point. What business does a 17 year old have dating a 25 year old? However, when Khloe Kardashian tweeted in defense of her sister, I started thinking of those Two Short lyrics and wondering what should the age of consent really be.
If the primary purpose of sex is for reproduction and females can start reproducing as soon as they start menstruation; does that mean nature is saying that a female is ready for sex right after menstruation? Sometimes the laws of men makes more sense than the laws of nature and this is one of those instances. In almost every country and for very good reason, the law of consent contradicts the law of nature. Sometimes when nature says yes, humans must be smart enough to override it with a no.
Apart from the obvious, one of the major problems with Too Short’s logic is the fact that although the average age of menstruation is twelve, some girls can actually start menstruating as early as eight and as late as sixteen. I doubt anyone in their right mind would want to see a pregnant 8 year old. So the age of consent around the world is based on mental maturity and not nature’s law of menstruation, reproduction, etc.
Still, it does not make sense that the laws of consent differ in countries across the world and even in territories within the countries. Do people in Israel, Italy, and Nigeria really mature so fast that their age of consent is 13 and 14, while in places like Turkey, Uganda and Egypt the age is 18 and 20, respectively? Does a girl in Iowa where the age of consent is 14 matures faster than a girl in Oregon where the age of consent is 18?
Which country or region has it right? Those that have the age of consent as low as 13 or those that has it as high as 20? Clearly they can’t both be correct. In the United States, the age of consent ranges from 16 to 18 depending on which state you are in.
So if Tyga and Kylie Jenner were in Colorado getting high, the getting high part would be illegal for Kylie but it would be perfectly legal for the two to get romantically involved because Colorado’s age of consent is 17.
If they should leave Colorado and head to Delaware, however, there relationship would end there as Delaware’s age of consent is 17.
So while it is fine for Tyga to be dating Kylie Jenner in some states, I have to agree with Amber Rose, he should get himself a girl who is at least 18 years old.
1 for Amber Rose; 0 for Khloe Kardashian; 0 for Tyga; 0 for Kylie Jenner.
