Vybz Kartel has become an instant billionaire after selling a patent for his special brand of cake soap to the Chinese company, Kung Ku Klean. Hardly anyone knew that the caged entertainer owned such a patent.

When people think of top earning reggae artists, Bob Marley is usually the first to come to mind. That is about to change as the king of reggae has been surpassed in earnings by the incarcerated Vybz Kartel. Vybz Kartel recently sold his patent on a special brand of cake soap that smoothens and lightens the skin to a Chinese company name Kung Ku Klean (KKK) for 1 billion USD. This transaction means that billionaire Vybz Kartel is not only the richest reggae artist but is most likely the richest Jamaican.

KKK based in Beijing, China bought the patent because of the high demand for lighter skin across Europe, India, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. The price is indeed $1 billion, with $600 million in cash and $400 million in stock.
KKK has always made small purchases of patents but the large amount they have spent on the Vybz Kartel’s cake soap patent is unheard of. While the artist had mentioned his cake soap in many songs and interviews, no one even knew he had a patent on it.

There was absolutely no speculation or publicity around Vybz Kartel being in a major financial deal so this has come as a big shock to the world, especially the reggae community.

Kung Ku Klean has already started and manufacturing the soap. The company has also created their first commercial for the soap (See Below).

KKK claims that high profile celebrities like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and even Vybz Kartel himself are big buyers of the soap and they expect the list to grow.

Vybz Kartel who is serving a life sentence for murder was not available to comment on this huge financial deal.
KKK is pleased with the patent purchase and believes it is a great investment. “A lot of people want bigger muscles, breast augmentations, butt lifts but almost everybody want lighter skin,” said Tee Chang Wizard, the CEO of KKK. “We believe this was a very wise investment he continued.”

The Chinese have been rapidly increasing their ownership in Jamaica and now they are the proud owners of the Vybz Kartel Cake Soap.
