The Laughing Treehouse / A unique Jamaican vacation Spot
THE LAUGHING TREEHOUSE lies in the cool hills of Portland, Jamaica where Lush Tropical Rain Forest, Breathtaking views of the Hills, Valleys and Ocean can be enjoyed.
This 3 floored organic experience was constructed smack dab in the middle of Breadfruit Tree. It is probably not the first tree house you’ve seen but it’s definitely one of the most advanced and cultured.
The owner of this unique structure is Llewellyn Clarke, a Portland native more causally known as Jah Luu.
18 Karat Reggae caught up with Jah Luu on Monday, June 6, 2016 for a brief chat.
He revealed that construction of the tree house began sometime in 2011, after an encounter with a vacationer (female from Japan). She kept asking about tree homes and a desire to inhabit one suitable enough to vacation in. Jah Luu gave the idea some thought of course; he acknowledged that being a Rasta and intrigue by nature, it didn’t take much to convince him it was a great idea.
The idea seemed far fetched and wasn’t necessarily embraced by his peers initially but he decided to go forward nonetheless, especially if it meant he gets to take on the challenge and impress his Japanese friend.
When asked why ‘The Laughing Treehouse’, he stated that he is witness to tremendous amount of Joy and Laughter fromeveryone who visits the house. That has had a profound impact on his will to continue to make the house even bigger and better. The house couples as a home and vacation style resort/villa. Yes, the unique effort is paying off!
Regarding the foundation and strength of the structure, Jah Luu indicated that he used concrete columns to assists the already massive trunk and limbs of the tree. He is confident it will withstand the elements for decades to come. He offered some random photos of the dwelling below:
Needless to say, “The Laughing Treehouse” is Jah Luu’s pride and joy; he has stated it is a working progress and will continue to improve and evolve. 18 Karat will follow this amazing undertaking for sure.
