Sean Paul album sales has rivaled those of Bob Marley’s over the years. Now the dancehall king is taking an addition test to continue in the path of the reggae king.

Since his departure from Atlantic Records in 2014, Sean Paul has been without a major label. This has recently changed as 18 Karat Reggae has learned that Sean Paul just signed a multi-year, multi-album deal with Island Records.

Island Records which was founded by Chris Blackwell was the label that brought Bob Marley to worldwide fame. Some of the greatest reggae acts were signed to Island Records. These acts include Bob Marley and the Wailers, Desmond Dekker,Burning Spear, Max Romeo and the original pioneer of Reggae, Jimmy Cliff.

Sean Paul sold millions of albums while with Atlantic Records, which was a joint deal with VP Records, a label that dub themselves as being “miles ahead in reggae music.” The king of dancehall is hoping that is new deal with island Records will help him to enjoy the huge success he had with Atlantic.

Whether Sean Paul’s future albums will enjoy millions in sales remain to be seen. One thing is sure, however, the king of dancehall can say he is on the same label as the king of reggae was.
