I stopped doing the club scene a couple years ago. Well not completely. If there is an oldies but goodies dance going on I will check it out. If one of my favorite reggae acts are performing at a club, say a Beres Hammond, Sizzla or another top flite entertainer, I will also check it out

A few nights ago, however, a co-worker from another state was in in Town and I was showing him the club scene around Tampa Bay. My co-worker was amazed at the number of clubs on both side of the street along the Ybor City stretch. What was even more amazing to him was the group standing on the corner with the “GOD HATES FAGS” and “HOMOSEXUALITY IS EVIL” signs.

I could not help to think about the bad wrap Jamaica gets for being homophobic. I wondered why Jamaica is always being singled out as the most homophobic country in the western hemisphere, when the truth is; Jamaica is not even one-tenth as homophobic as the United States.

When I woke up to the news of a mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando, the first thing that came to my mind was, someone like the people we saw with the “God hates fags” sign decided to take their peaceful protest to another level. Then as the news continued to unfold, it was revealed that the murder was born in the United States but his parents are from Afghanistan.

The minute I heard Afghanistan, I knew exactly what the average American would be thinking and saying: This has less to do with homophobia and more to do with Islamic Terrorism.

Of course, we all need to wait until the investigators are able to do their job but the speculations will be running high. Hopefully no one will try to blame this atrocity on Buju Banton’s “Boom Bye Bye”.

Interesting enough, the previous night, The Voice singer, Christina Grimmie, was murdered while she signed autographs after a performance in Orlando. It is probably a great time to stay away from the Florida club scene for a while.
