Staying healthy and fit as we get older.

Health and fitness Health and fitness

As many of us approach the big 40, we start having concerns about our health and getting older. Our bodies no longer have the shape of a 20 year old, and as we get older we take on new responsibilities that sometimes leave little time for exercise. Speaking as a 40-year-old mother of four, I find this to be very true.

We work 40-hour weeks, some of us more and most of us have families to attend to. After a long day we are either very exhausted or we tell ourselves that we got enough exercise while performing our daily routine.

However, as we get older it becomes even more important to work exercise into our daily routine. You do not have to exercise every day, but you should make an attempt to exercise at least 4 times a week for at least 30 minutes each time you exercise. You should also get your heart rate up at least 2 times a week. Jogging, biking and swimming are all great ways to get your heart rate up.

As we get older many health factors are taking into consideration and some can be avoidable with weekly exercise. Some of these include heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and colon cancer, just to name a few.

There are many resources available today that can help us stay fit and reduce our risk factors.

So turn off the TV for a little. Get up, get out and get healthy.
