Pope Francis says Christians Should Apologize to Gays for Oppression & Abuse!

Pope Francis had been in Armenia and during a flight back to Rome on Sunday, he told reporters that he believes Church not only should apologize to a gay persons whom it offended as much as apologizies are owed to the poor, women who have been exploited, children who have been exploited by (being forced to) work; apologize for having blessed so many weapons!

That’s quite an interesting take on the issue of the role religion plays in social matters. Atheists, agnostics and  spiritualists alike have long blamed much of the worlds atrocities on the influence of the Christian church. For instance in modern times, the Iraq invasion by then president Bush is dubbed a Christian vs Islam war; more can be said about that but this demand levied at the church is quite profound and unexpected as it comes from the head of the Christian Church.

This Pope is clearly taking a non-judgemental approach but what does that mean for Christianity in general. Are his qualms delegitimizing? Are we on the path of getting rid of this divisive oppressive tool? What about the fact that the bible provided justification for slavery? What about the Catholic and Protestian-led colonization and misplacement of indigenous people around the world? What about reparation for Afrikan descendants in the west who created wealth to last whites for eons for free? There’s a lot of apologizing to do but lets start with giving people their inherent dignity back!
