While waiting for the Ministry of Education to determine if their parents will be allowed to home-school them, the 12-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl have been getting “lessons” in mathematics, Spanish and English.

The tutoring is being conducted in conjunction with the African Heritage Foundation (AHF), a non-governmental organisation that aims to improve the lot of the under-privileged in Barbados.

The parents, Charles Lashley and Kim Jackman, officially applied for permission to home-school their children two months ago after being hauled before the courts by the Ministry of Education when it was discovered that the children had never been registered to attend school.
