Anyone who thinks Shenseea is on a mission to take Spice’s crown as the queen of Dancehall is either not paying attention or slow at processing information. Spice might feel like she has to protect her throne from Shenseea but that feeling is not reciprocated by the Blessed singer.

For those paying attention they would have noticed that after Spice’s Instagram rant last week about Shenseea’s manager, Romeich, getting in the way of the two divas doing a collaboration Shenseea did not even respond. She did not even come to the defense of Romeich after he was styled as “the big belly man.” In fact, Shenseea has not posted on social media since June 1st.

Shenseea has a very intelligent team behind her that understands data and how to analyze data. When Buju Banton and Vybz Kartel, the two hottest entities in dancehall in 2020, released their album on the same day to much fanfare, neither of them were able to sell 10 thousand units. In fact, they did not even half that number.. Skillibeng who is the hottest young dancehall talent sold a measly 25 copies in the first week of his album release.

So Dancehall is not selling, Shenseea and her team understands that and the goal is for the artist to sell music.

An insider on Shenseea team who asked to remain anonymous since she was not authorized to speak on the matter told 18 Karat Reggae that everything Shenseea has been doing since the start of the month is geared toward selling music once her freshman album is released later this year.

“Her absence from social media is part of a plan. When the clip of Busta Rhymes hitting on her at the Miami party was released it was all carefully planned,” the source said.

According to the source, even the fan that asked the question that prompted Shenseea to say her private was blessed as she shared the stage with 50 Cent and Trey Songs was also planned and staged.

“It is a marketing machine in motion right now. Shenseea was a promotion girl before she became a performer, so she understands marketing. The team that have been out together to steer her career are all experts marketers with the track record to prove it,” the source continued.

So not a single response to Spice from Shenseea, instead a video is posted of Busta Rhymes hitting on her at a club, she sharing the stage with Trey Songz and 50 Cent; and a wild rumor that she is pregnant for Drake. Put that all together and it is clear, Shenseea is looking more to Hip Hop than she is Dancehall and the reason is simple. Hip Hop still sells, Dancehall hasn’t for a long time now.

So if Spice is looking at Shenseea as her main competitor, she is wasting her time. She would be better served to pay attention to Dovey Magnum, Moni-Q Musique or Shaneil Muir.

Shenseea’s set is set on artists like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and even the singing greats like Rihanna and Beyonce.

If Shenseea can really make it big in Hip Hop it would not only be great for her on the individual level but it would be good for Jamaica and Jamaicans. Afterall, Trinidad has Nicki Minaj, Barbados has Rihanna, Jamaica needs our own international female starlet. Shenseea fits the bill.
