If there is any doubt that we are witnessing history being created by Buju Banton, last night should erase all those doubts. The Rasta went into Barbados and drew a larger crowd than Rihanna did when she performed there, even though Rihanna is a Bajan.
Even Rihanna herself was present at the show to be a part of the historical moment. Buju Banton is taking Reggae Music to higher heights and that’s a fact that can’t be denied.
Promoter Al Gilkes of FAS entertainment said that the fourth leg of Buju’s Long Walk to Freedom was the biggest show ever in Barbados.
“We knew it would be huge but we were not expecting it to be even bigger than Rihanna’s LOUD show,” Gilkes said.
Rihanna arrived at the show too late to catch performances by dancehall artistes like Spragga Benz, Agent Sasco and the Reggae messenger Luciano but she made sure to not miss a minute of Buju Banton’s performance.
As usual Buju Banton put on a thrilling performance that had both the local Bajans and the visiting tourists eating from the palm of his hands.
Buju Banton is pretty much booked out for 2019. Below are his upcoming shows.
May 4 – Paramaribo, Suriname @ Andre Kamperveen Stadion
May 11 – St. George, Grenada @ National Stadium
June 15 – Tortola, British Virgin Islands @ Festival Village Grounds
June 29 – Basseterre @ St. Kitts Music Festival
July 6 – Cologne, Germany @ Summerjam
July 20 – Montego Bay, Jamaica @ Reggae Sumfest
Why pit them against each other like this and try to make this comparison?
Al Gilkes clearly wants to say he hosted the largest show in Barbados.
Rihanna’s show was sold out completely. To have more persons attending simply means that they offered more tickets. That is pretty much it.
They both did well and they both support each other. The end.
