Dancehall princess, Shenseea, continues to follow in the footsteps of Spice, the queen of the Dancehall. The former has been penned to perform on the Pride Island lineup this summer in New York City. The concert which is being put on by NYC Pride is scheduled for June 25 on Governors Island and will be headlined by Kim Petras, a transgender performer.
According to the LGBTQ organization, this will be the first fully in-person Pride Island staged in three years. “With our first ever trans headliner and our move to Governors Island, this will truly be a historic weekend in the history of Pride,” Lauren Cheeseborough, Pride Island Event Manager, said in a release. “The expansion of Pride Island to a 3-day event creates new experiences for the community to love and live their truth by dancing freely without fear of consequence.”
Interestingly, when Shenseea takes the stage at the gay event, it will be exactly one year since she released her song “Run Run”, an attempt to remake the Dennis Brown classic, “Run too tuff”.
In Brown’s song, the prince of Reggae warned, “Man take it easy upon yourself. Man don’t be greedy watch your step. You are making a fool of yourself, and you really think you are at your best.” This is the warning that many dancehall fans believe Shenseea is not heeding as the consensus is that greed is the driving factor why she is performing at the show.
