Just a week after Actress, Gina Rodriguez, apologized for using the N-word on social media, Jamaican dancehall star, Shenseea, posted a video also using the disparaging word. This has gotten social media once again asking who can or cannot use the word.
Gina Rodriquez is Hispanic while Shenseea is Asian. The singjay’s father is Korean but she was born and raised in Jamaica. So the question is now being asked if Asians are allowed to use the N-word but Hispanics cannot.
In the posted by Shenseea, she asked the question; “…can you imagine dating a n#&&@…” before adding “that doesn’t”. She never revealed exactly what the n-word doesn’t do but fans were assuming that she was referring to oral sex.
Many on social media were shocked by Shenseea’s video with one fan saying, “I guess she can say the ‘n’ word. Looks like that she is ready to gag.”
Last week Gina Rodriquez issued the following apology after receiving severe backlash for using the word while singing along to a Fugees song:
In song or in real life, the words that I spoke, should not have been spoken. I grew up loving the Fugees and Lauryn Hill. I thoughtlessly sang along to the lyrics of a favorite song, and even worse, I posted it. The word I sang, carries with it a legacy of hurt and pain that I cannot even imagine. Whatever consequences I face for my actions today, none will be more hurtful than the personal remorse I feel.
Watching my own video playing back at me, has shaken me to my core. It is humiliating that this has to be a public lesson but it is indeed a much deserved lesson. I feel so deeply protective and responsible to the community of color but I have let this community down. I have some serious learning and growing to do and I am so deeply sorry for the pain I have caused.
