A pastor from Spartanburg, South Carolina, was arrested for repeatedly raping and twice impregnating a 13-year-old girl. After both pregnancies the girl was then coerced by the pastor to have abortions.
32-year-old Phillip Jerard Buckson was taken into custody on Wednesday at the Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church, where he has worked since 2014. The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says he is charged with sexual conduct with a minor and has admitted to the allegations.
Investigators say tips provided through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led authorities to the girl last week; she told investigators the abuse started in 2015 when she was 13 years old.
The church’s website says Buckson has preached in Georgia, Chicago, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
Authorities are investigating whether or not the pastor is responsible for raping any other girls in any of the numerous cities he has preached in.
It is not yet known about what part the girl’s parents played in her life and whether or not they were aware of what she was going through with the pastor.
Recently a spate of pastors have been caught in compromising sexual situations around the United states.
