Seventeen (17) year old, rising star Marksman took a step closer to one of his goals with his debut at Reggae Sumfest 22 over the weekend, courtesy of international Dancehall star TeeJay.
Jamaica’s most iconic, 6-day music festival featured the who’s who in Reggae Dancehall music, some of which invited emerging talent on stage during their set. TeeJay not only allowed Savlamar born and bred Marksman to share the stage with him, he also made it clear to the audience that he rates the Top Coote, and has his eye on his creative progress.
With several songs like Verified Choppa 2, Top Coote and VISA currently buzzing all over Jamaica, the artist just delivered summer banger Antics just days before Sumfest (July 18th). Produced by NecoGlock (aka Infamous), the Westmoreland based selector of New York City’s legendary King Addies, Antics was released on their Brooklyn based TruMoneyMusiq label, and the vibe is definitely contagious.
Having performed in every parish in Jamaica within the last six months, and also recently shelling Guyana in May 2022, Marksman says he has always viewed Sumfest as a milestone that would officially stamp his industry arrival.
Performing one song at Sumfest, Marksman is hopeful for a full feature on next year’s staging and shared, “Sumfest is actually one of those big stage shows I’ve always wanted to perform on. It was actually my first time performing with a live band and I really enjoyed that experience. So, I feel very accomplished but this is only the beginning. I love the fact that when people hear my music they feel good and I want to take that vibe all over the world.”
A promising talent with so much more to achieve in music and life in general, when asked what he would be doing if not involved in music, Marksman stated “I would probably be in school studying medicine or public health. At some point I’ll likely go to college and accomplish that…can’t leave out education. But right now I’m seeing how far music can take me.”
