It seems like some Jamaican law enforcement officers did not get the memo about the laws that they are being paid to enforce. What a crying shame. This goes to show how the lack of education has contributed to Jamaica’s deterioration on every level.
A video captures the policeman engaged in a confrontation with a civilian. The police can be heard telling the man, “You can’t see police and still a smoke weed.” At which point, one of the onlookers responded, “weed legalize!”
In the video, the policeman is attempting to arrest the civilian, but he appeared to have been resisting. Onlookers questioned the policeman about the reason for wanting to arrest the man.
The police man later unholstered his firearm, some time after which an explosion was heard. The civilian was then seen on the floor.
Marijuana has been decriminalized in Jamaica. The law now says that if a person is caught with two ounces or less of marijuana, they cannot be arrested, they should be issue a citation, the equivalent of a speeding ticket.
A case like this, not only should the police officer involved in the incident be charged for murder, but his superiors should be punished as well as it seems like they fail to instruct this officer how to handle marijuana smokers after the “ganja bill” became law.
Maybe, it would help them to follow 18 Karat Reggae, where we keep the public aware of these things. Had they read this article: https://18karatreggae.com/2015/02/25/marijuana-finally-decriminalized-in-jamaica/, the man they killed might have been alive now.
