According to mainstream media, Teyana Taylor is making history becoming the first Black woman to be named the “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Maxim magazine.
While Teyana should be celebrated because she is indeed sexy and beautiful, the Black community should not see this as some big accomplishment. Black women were always beautiful and sexy. The fact that a magazine like Maxim is just coming around to see that is nothing for the Black community to get excited about.
If anything, Maxim and hated filled, racist white America should be the ones celebrating. They should be celebrating the fact that they are no longer blinded by bigotry.
Teyana Taylor is not a symbol of how far Black people have come. Her being named the sexiest woman alive is a symbol of how far white America has come out of the dungeon of hate. Yes, it is true, America is becoming less filled but it is taking way too long of a time.
Watching America let go of her bigotry is like watching molasses pour from a huge drum, through a straw, a tiny straw, the kind you would use to stir a cup of tea.
Truth be told, since the turn of the century, a Black woman has been the sexiest woman alive 13 of the years; 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021. We wont list all the names for those years but you could reach out to 18 Karat Reggae if you are interested.
