If you ask the average reggae fan what they think about reggae artists, Mr. Bertus, you will get an answer like this: “The song he did with I-Wayne is fire. I love that song.” Of course they are referring to the hit song “They have no love” which is a beautiful collaboration. Then there are the real hardcore reggae fans who will say, “the song he did with The Mighty Diamonds is a reggae classic” and of course in this case they are referring to “Little green apple.”
For some reason fans tend to want to talk about the songs Mr Bertus did with great reggae artists but not the great songs he did by himself which should establish him himself as a great artist. Nor do they ever want to talk about the great songs he did with other artists who do not have the huge reputation as an I-Wayne or The Mighty Diamonds.
The truth is, however, Mr Bertus without the aid of a well established reggae artist, has enough great songs to stand on his own and go up against any reggae artists past or present.
Rather than explaining why we believe Mr. Bertus is super underrated if not the most underrated reggae artist today, we will let you listen to a few of his songs outside of the collaborations with big name artists.
More and more, people are becoming fascinated by social popularity rather than substance in the music. So an artist with millions of social media followers is automatically considered to be great even if the music say otherwise. At the same time there are great artists who continually make good music that for unexplained reason goes unappreciated by the masses.
