Vybz Kartel and his four co-defendants will be free men in 2022 if everything goes the way his attorney Isat Buchanan is expecting them to go.
The deejay has been in a fight for his life and his freedom since 2014 when he was convicted and sentenced for murder. He appealed the murder conviction in Jamaica but lost the appeal.
Kartel subsequently took his case to the Privy Council in the United Kingdom and this is where his attorney believes he will have a bonafide shot at his freedom.
Buchanan had requested that the phone that contained evidence that was used to implicate Vybz Kartel be tested for tampering by an independent third party. A digital expert from the United Kingdom was flown in to inspect the phone and it was concluded that the phone was in fact tampered with.
In an interview with Fox News, Buchanan states that he is now convinced that the world boss was set up and that the messages on the phone that were used as evidence were all fake and phony.
“Looking at the evidence, this case was about getting Vybz Kartel in prison and leaving him there,” Buchanan said. “What was put before the jury was evidence that we do not know if it was authentic but certainly we now know that the phone was tampered with.”
Buchanan hopes and is very confident that when the Privy Council looks at the new evidence that he is currently filing they will see what every else that looked at the case saw, that the evidence used to convict Vybz Kartel was fabricated and thus throw the entire conviction out.
“We are looking for complete overturn of the conviction and naturally for Mr. Palmer and his co-defendants to be free.” Buchanan continued.
Buchanan says after his fresh evidence application is filed in the next few weeks he expects that Vybz Kartel will be a free man next year.
