Jamaica’s National U-17 got a much needed win against Guatemala in their quest to qualify for the FIFA U-17 world cup. After going down 0-2 to Honduras, it was essential that Jamaica secured a victory against Guatemala who had already beaten Trinidad and Tobago 4-1.
Jamaica sprint ahead 1-0 in the first half but the lead did not last long as Guatemala tied up the game before halftime. The second half saw both teams having some chances but not converting on their opportunities. With less than 5 minutes left in regulation, it seems like Guatemala was contented with playing for the tie with all except one of their players playing in the back.
In about the 88th minute, however, Alex Marshall of the young Reggae Boyz took a well-placed free kick, which his teammate Donavon “Babylon” Dawkins jump and headed in the back of the Guatemala’s net.
This was a well-deserved and well need win for the Jamaicans. This victory put them back in the driver’s seat as they are now in control of their destiny to move on to the 2017 U-17 world cup.
