Reggae to Rio takes over Summer Olympics 2016.

Reggae to Rio Reggae to Rio

Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is taking reggae to Rio in celebration of the country’s culture. Not only will the talent of Jamaica’s greatest athletes be on display but her greatest musicians will also be honored and in some cases remembered.

The Reggae to Rio event will pay tribute to reggae greats like Peter Tosh, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, the incarcerated Buju Banton and other greats of the genre that helped to make the music what it is today. So while it will be the Jamaican athletes that have the center stage, the entertainment off the field will be reggae music.

The event is organized by the JCDC and the performing acts will be Romain Virgo, Judy Mowatt, Duane Stephenson and many more.

“As we celebrate the opening of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, this concert will not only acknowledge our cultural greats, but will also honour our athletes who are working their hardest to make Jamaica proud,” said director of marketing and public relations ofthe JCDC, Stephen Davidson.

“The concert line-up is definitely one we are proud of, so we expect a bumper crowd at the Independence Village as we cheer our athletes on,” Davidson continued.
