The Jamaican edition of Verzuz featuring Bounty Killer and Beenie Man was the best episode yet with big names like Rihanna, Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, Erykah Badu, Idris Elba, Gabrielle Union and Jourdan Dunn all tuning in to the Instagram live. Words reaching 18 Karat Reggae is that Nicki Minaj wanted to be a part of the historical event but her husband had objections and that’s the only reason the rap queen did not join the live.
According to a source close to Nicki, her husband is trying to wean her off the Jamaican culture because her ex, Safaree, is a Jamaican. The husband also had suspicions that Safaree would be joining the live and he did not like the idea of Safaree commenting and Nicky seeing what he was saying.
“Nicki initially put up a fight,” according to the source, “but she knows he is the jealous type so to keep the peace she just skipped the event,”
Bounty Killer Verzuz Beenie Man was a huge success with viewership of over 500k people.
Jamaicans are already anticipating another version and throwing names in a pool like Capleton verzuz Sizzla, Mr. Bertus verzuz Tarrus Riley, Sean Paul verzuz Shaggy and Sanchez verzuz Pinchers.
Whether there will be another Jamaican edition of verzuz remains to be seen but in the meantime, reggae fans are rolling into the summer with the music of Reggae Gold 2020.
