There is a very slim chance that Vybz Kartel could surprise Jamaica and the entire world with a surprise performance at Reggae Sumfest 2019, that is if you trust lawyers, marketers and reporters.
Joe Bogdanovich, Skatta Burrell and the Reggae Sumfest marketing team are without a doubt the king of all marketers. When you already have Buju Banton, Chronixx and Koffee on the Sumfest lineup and the tickets still have not sold off, that is when you pull out all the stops.
So it is no surprise that exactly two weeks before the closing night of Reggae Sumfest 2019, Lisa Evers of Fox 5 news revealed that she contacted the attorney for Vybz Kartel, Tom Tavares-Finson, and she was told that Vybz Kartel could be free within the next two weeks.
“@vybzkartel murder case appeal “could come anytime within next 2 weeks” says his high powered attorney Tom Tavares-Finson. I called him today for an update… He is optimistic the ruling will be in Kartel’s favor,” Miss Evers posted on her Facebook profile.
So will Vybz Kartel really be free in two weeks? We don’t know for sure but if he was, can’t you just imagine when he runs out on the Sumfest stage? The entire Jamaica would shake as if it was an earthquake the way the crowd would respond.
We believe that the timing of Miss Evers post is nothing but a promotional stunt concocted by the Reggae Sumfest marketing team, however.
Here is how is how we think it happened. Skatta Burrell went into Joe Bagdanovich office and said, “Boss, imagine if Vybz Kartel was free and we had him on for closing night? All the tickets would sell off in a night.” Joe thought about it for a minute and responded, “hmmm, Kartel will not be on the show but what if we made people believe that there is a slim chance he could be on the show?” “How can we let them think that without blatantly lying to them boss?” Skatta asked. “Tek it easy mi prento,” Joe replied, “let mi call up some a mi white fren dem and show you how we do it.”
So just got his secretary to setup a bridge call with Tom Tavares-Finson and Lisa Evers and the plan was set in motion to concoct a story that would have dancehall fans believing that there is a small chance that Vybz Kartel will be on Reggae Sumfest 2019.
If you were planning to attend Sumfest but did not purchase your ticket as yet, it is too late now. All tickets sold out on July 9th, the same day Lisa Evers posted that Kartel’s attorney told her that a verdict could come within two weeks and they were optimistic it would be in the deejay’s favor.
So will there be a verdict soon? Will the verdict be in Kartel’s favor? Will Kartel bless the Sumfest stage? We will know the answer to all these questions by July 21st.
