Vybz Kartel songs are having a negative influence on Jamaica, especially the youths, according to the police. Now Lisa Hanna, the MP of South East St. Ann is calling for a ban of Vybz Kartel songs from all public radios.

Not only is she blaming Kartel’s music for playing a part in the high crime rate in Jamaica, but she also says there is a lot of corruption going on that is allowing Vybz Kartel to record new songs from prison.

As a result of her suggestion, Lisa Hanna has been receiving death threats from fans of Vybz Kartel.

A senior member of the People’s National Party told 18 Karat Reggae that the party is aware of the threats against Hanna and is taking steps to have the matter properly investigated.

In November last year, Vybz Kartel was transferred from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre to the maximum security Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre.

A prison source said the artiste was transferred to Tower Street for “confinement”.

Before his transfer, there was mounting concerns that Kartel was apparently recording songs while incarcerated at Horizon.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer was sentenced in April 2014 to life in prison for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

He is to serve 35 years before he becomes eligible for parole.
