Dr. Umar Johnson subscribes to the teachings of Marcus Garvey.
In the video below, Dr. Johnson describes what he thinks about the church and the role churches play within the Black community.
Churches collect millions of dollars, year after year with no accountability. What they seem way too interested to offer is merely emotional entertainment.
“Where is the money going? Not in the community,” says Dr. Umar “the only institution black people remains committed to building are Churches.”
Take Jamaica as an example, the island has more churches per capita that anywhere else in the world; however, the existence of that fellowship does not translate to more peace or prosperity (per capita) more than any other nation in the world. The presence of more than fair share of churches fails to inform the moral compass of the people, the politicians, corruption in the pews, crime, gang violence, heads of churches taken advantage of young girls and boys and the list goes on?
It leads to the question, what has the church done overall? Nothing but provide emotional entertainment that keeps members showing up and dropping off their 10% tithe.
