13 children under the age of 10 were raped in Jamaica in 2019. They were just a small part of the 236 children raped across the island as reported by the Jamaican police.
Now an aspiring politician from Maroon Town, in the parish of St. James thinks he has the solution that will prevent the raping of children in the future. Calvin Thompson plans to run for political office on the platform that he his best suited to protect the children of Jamaica from child predators.
If Mr. Thompson has his way, child molesters in Jamaica will want to think twice before preying on little children. The plan is to permanently and physically punish someone convicted of certain sex offenses against children by surgically castrating before they leave prison.
He said the punishment would be for sex offenders over the age of 21 that committed sex offenses against children 12 years old and younger.
“They are destroying these young children and the punishment should fit the crime,” said Thompson.
Some residents of Maroon Town voiced their opinion that Mr. Thompson proposed method of punishment is too hard bit the hopeful politician disagrees.
“Yes, people have passed me on the street and said don’t you think this is too harsh? I asked them what’s harsher than when you take a little child, and you sexually molest that child when the child cannot defend themselves or get away, and they have to go through all the things they have to go through. If you want to talk about harsh–that’s harsh,” said Thompson.
Some residents of Maroon Town actually support Thompson and said they are prepared to vote for him when he runs for office.
“Somebody that wants to mess with a little girl or little boy that age should be castrated, and they should not be able to mess with any other kids,” said Keith Dixon.
