There is a huge sign that the incarcerated king of the dancehall, Vybz Kartel, might have given up on winning his pending appeal.
Numerous media outlets have been reporting that the world boss has signed up for the Rehabilitation of Offenders through Music Program; a program that aims to rehabilitate convicted criminals in the Jamaican prison system.
The interesting thing about the program is that its primary purpose is to rehabilitate criminals, so if a prisoner has filed an appeal then that prisoner is in essence saying that he was wrongly convicted and therefore does not need any rehabilitation.
One has to wonder what drove Vybz Kartel to sign up for this program considering that he currently has a pending appeal. The only rational explanation is that the Gaza don must believe the appeal will be unsuccessful and he will be behind bars for the long run in order to participate in the program.
Could it be that news have leaked to Kartel that he has lost the appeal?
The rehabilitation program began in 2004 and the most famous convict that went through the program is reggae crooner, Jah Cure, who was serving time for a rape conviction at the time.
The Jamaican appeals court issued a statement recently that says that the verdict on Vybz Kartel’s appeal will be coming very soon.
