America is a less Christian nation than it was 20 years ago, and Christianity is not losing out to other religions, but primarily to a rejection of religion altogether, a survey published recently found.
Seventy-five percent of Americans call themselves Christians, according to the American Religious Identification Survey from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1995, the figure was 86 percent.
It is hard to believe that the number of Christians in “God Bless America” has declined more than ten percent in twenty years.
Many have attributed the steep decline to the scandal in the catholic church where numerous priests were found guilty of molesting little boys. With this kind of behavior, many found it difficult to stay true to a religion where the leaders / teachers of said religion were not being true themselves.
Another explanation is that the new generation just wants to be more liberated, fee to do as they will and be hindered by too many “thou shat not”. So rather than sticking to the laws of God, they have chosen to obey the laws of men, but have no other guidelines by witch they have to live their lives.
Yet there is another explanation that falls along the line of, “Fools say in their hearts, there is no God”. The fool in this case being the “educated fools.” As man become more educated,+ he gets less religious, relying more on science to understand the being of man rather than on the bible or other religious teachings.
Whatever the real reason is, the fact is the country is less religious than it was in the past and the decline does not seems like it will be slowing down.
