A Jamaican reggae artist was sentenced to 18 months in jail in Barbados for attempting to smuggle marijuana into the country.
Dervent Anthony Bartlett, 38, pleaded guilty to charges of possession, trafficking, intent to supply and importation when he appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell yesterday.
Barbados police were tipped off that Bartlett was attempting to smuggle 3 pounds of marijuana into Barbados.
Reports are that when Bartlett came through the Grantley Adams International Airport, his luggage was searched by Customs officials, but they found no drugs during that search.
However, he was handed over to police who interviewed him before taking him to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where an x-ray was conducted.
It was revealed that Bartlett had 102 packages in his intestines.
Bartlett was sentenced to 18 months in jail on the count of trafficking, and was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the counts of possession, intent to supply and importation.
