Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers advance to Super Bowl 50.
Peyton Manning isn’t done just yet. Now, the 39-year-old quarterback has another chance to win an NFL championship. It was another Brady-Manning match up and Manning came out victorious over the 4 time Super Bowl winner Brady. Brady threw two touchdowns as he lead the Denver Broncos over the New England Patriots.
“It’s a great honor to be going back to the Super Bowl — playing Super Bowl 50,” Manning said. “I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a fun two weeks.”
Sunday’s Cardinals-Panthers game marked the first time in NFL playoff history that two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks started against each other. Panthers QB Cam Newton won the Heisman in 2010; Cardinals’ starter Carson Palmer won in 2002.
As for the head-to-head match-up, it was lopsided.
Cam Newton and his Panthers were way too much for the Arizona Cardinals to handle. The Cardinals defense had no answer for Cam Newton and Carson Palmer was no match for Carolina’s stingy defense.
Palmer was pressured into three first-half turnovers, fumbling twice and also failing to capitalize on the Newton interception, throwing a pick of his own in the end zone just one play later. He also threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, including pick-six, but the game already was well out of reach by then.
So Super Bowl 50 is all set, with arguably the best two defenses in the NFL.
On the offensive side, it will be the story of the two quarterbacks. A young Cam Newton who is still in his youth and an almost 40 year old Peyton Manning who many suspect that Super Bowl 50 will be his last game.
As Peyton Manning said, it will be on exciting two weeks as we all wait for the big game.
