Finally other media outlets and major ones at that, are discussing the role that race is playing on who dominate reggae music in terms of sales. for so long, many have tried to hide thefact that it is not only talent that decides who is successful but skin complexion also plays a major role.
18 Karat Reggae has never shied away from the subject. In fact, we have been labeled as racists for pointing out who really created Reggae music and the Rasta movement versus who gets the credit for both.
Now that Joss Stone has been named the Reggae artist of the year, everyone is seeing what 18 Karat Reggae has been saying. Even the Jamaican Observer has gotten into the discussion and asking what role did race play in Joss Stone winning the award.
We have said it already and we will say it again, Jah Cure was way more deserving to be named the Reggae artist of the year as his album The Cure is ten times better than Joss Stone’s. Jah Cure as way too much melanin for the people who buy the most music and that is the main reason he did not win the award.
We are not being disrespectful when we say that in the realm of reggae, Joss Stone does not even deserve to clean Jah cure’s shoes.
We challenge everyone to go to youtube or wherever you consume music; listen to The Cure by Jah Cue and Water For Your Soul by Joss Stone and make up your own mind on who deserved Reggae Artist of the year.
