
Many visitors come to Jamaica under the impression that marijuana is legal on the island. This false belief is getting many people it trouble. Marijuana has been decriminalized in Jamaica but only for up to two ounces, any quantity above that and you could be committing a crime.
A reggae musician from Panama was arrested and charged with breaching Jamaica’s Dangerous Drug Act after he was caught with a large quantity of marijuana at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The musician, 53-year-old Maurice Larman from Panama City, was charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and attempting to export pot.
Reports are that about 11:45 am yesterday, Larman was about to board a flight, destined to Panama, when his suitcase was searched in his presence.
During the search, a hidden compartment containing six packages of marijuana weighing approximately 8 pounds was found.
He was arrested for the possession of marijuana which is said to have an estimated street value of approximately 250 USD.
Larman is scheduled to appear before the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, December 19.
