Etana will have a chance to make history in 2019. The strong one is the only female among the nominees for the 2019 Reggae Grammy Award, a fete that has never been achieved by a female solo performer.
Sharon Marley, Puma Jones and Cedella Marley have all won the Reggae Grammy Award but they all did so as part of groups where the lead singers were males.
For Etana to win the Reggae Grammy Award and make history she will have to beat out the likes of Ziggy Marley, Protoje, Sting and Shaggy and the very first Reggae Grammy Award winners, Black Uhuru.
Etana’s album Reggae Forever has what it takes to be a Reggae Grammy Award winner but it has been no secret over the years that the Grammy committee does not have even the most basic knowledge of reggae music.
Take a listen to Etana’s full album below:
The 2019 Reggae Grammy Award nominees are:
1. As The World Turns – Black Uhuru
2. Reggae Forever – Etana
3. Rebellion Rises – Ziggy Marley
4. A Matter Of Time – Protoje
5. 44/876 – Sting & Shaggy
