Self-proclaimed king of the dancehall, Vybz Kartel, had his phone confiscated by the warders at the maximum-security Tower Street Adult Correctional Facility last month. Kartel who used to post very to his followers on Instagram has been mum for almost a month now.

18 Karat Reggae contacted the Tower Street jail to see if they could offer any information as to why Vybz Kartel was no longer posting on Instagram. Diane Clarke who is the director of communications said they could not give any information about any particular inmate unless direct permission was given by the inmate. However, the communications director did divulge that they did sweep of the facility in mid-March and all contrabands found in the cells were confiscated.

“Right after midnight on March 14th, all inmates were ordered out of their cells leaving all their belongings behind. Our warders then went through the cells and seized all contrabands,” director Clarke said. “Cellphones, televisions and other electronics are among the list of contrabands that inmates are not allowed to have,”

The fact that the raid occurred early morning (right after midnight) on March 14th makes perfect sense because Vybz Kartel’s last Instagram post was on March 13th.
